Popular Sungura music maestro, Simon Chopper Chimbetu's real name was Simon Mwakalyelye Shembeto. According to his son, Sulumani, the name Shembeto was originally Tanzanian. Sulu told musician and blogger, Mono Mukundu ,on his program Artist to Artist, that officials at the registry office Shonalized the name because Shembeto sounded foreign. Simon Chimbetu (23 September 1955 - 14 August 2005) was a leading Zimbabwean guitarist and vocal composer famous for his distinct museve music, and founder of a band called Orchestra Dendera Kings that belted out several hits including the all-time hits Dzandipedza Mafuta, Samatenga and others.
