Elliot Pfebve, Zimbabwean Opposition Veteran and mRNA Cancer Vaccine Pioneer, Dies at 57

Elliot Pfebve, a Zimbabwean-born British academic, politician, and cancer awareness advocate, passed away on 24 May 2026 at the age of 57 after a battle with colorectal cancer. Born in Zimbabwe, Pfebve was a founding member of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and stood as a parliamentary candidate in Bindura in 2000 and 2001. He endured state-sponsored violence, including the murder of his brother Mathew, which led him into exile in the United Kingdom. In the UK, he built a successful academic career at Coventry University as a Senior Lecturer and Associate Head of School. He held multiple postgraduate degrees, including a Doctor of Education, and was a Chartered IT Professional and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He also authored the memoir Zimbabwe my home my frustration. In 2024, Pfebve became one of the first patients in England to receive a personalised mRNA cancer vaccine through an NHS clinical trial. He went on to found the Pfebve Cancer Support Charity to promote early detection and innovative treatments. He is survived by his four children. He will be remembered for his courage in the face of political persecution and his dedication to education, human rights, and cancer advocacy.
