HARARE — The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Hardrock FC and Dynamos FC was abandoned on Sunday after crowd violence erupted following a late penalty incident at Chahwanda Stadium.
The PSL confirmed the match was called off when disturbances broke out in the stands, forcing players and officials to flee the pitch.
Witnesses said some Dynamos supporters turned violent after the penalty was taken, with several scaling the perimeter fence and entering the field.
In the ensuing chaos, Hardrock fans reportedly invaded the pitch in an attempt to repel the Dynamos supporters as security struggled to restore order.
PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare said the league is awaiting official reports from the match commissioner and referees before ruling on the matter.
“The PSL strongly condemns any acts of misconduct at our events and those found guilty will face the full extent of the prescribed penalties,” Bare said in a statement.
Both clubs have been directed to submit written reports detailing the events.
The PSL said it will issue no further comment until all reports are received and reviewed in line with regulations.
