LEAD President Linda Masarira Dies

Harare - Labour, Economists and African Democrats (LEAD) President Linda Tsungirira Masarira has died. Her cause of death has not yet been established.

The news was announced Sunday, 24 May 2026, by her friend Abigale Mupambi.

“It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of a close friend and associate, a comrade to many — LEAD President Linda Tsungirirai Masarira, today, Sunday, 24 May 2026,” Mupambi said in a statement.

“Further details regarding funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”

A colleague who spoke to Mupane News on condition of anonymity said Masarira had been unwell for some time and was recently admitted to hospital for an undisclosed ailment.

Masarira, a former trade unionist and prominent opposition figure, founded LEAD in 2019 after breaking away from the MDC-T. She was known for her outspoken advocacy on labour rights and women’s issues.

This is a developing story. More details to follow.
